What is heat treatment?
Heat treatment is a materials science process in which a material is heated and cooled in a controlled manner. During the treatment, for example, steel is first heated to a certain temperature and then cooled in a controlled manner. Depending on the chosen process, the material can be made harder, softer, or stronger.
Heat treatments are primarily used for metal parts, but are also applied to other materials. For example, certain processes are also used for polymers or ceramic materials. In the metal industry, however, this treatment is an integral part of the production process for many technical components. A material may also undergo heat treatment as a result of other processes that generate heat, such as welding, extrusion, or rolling. In such cases, the structure of the material may change due to the temperature generated during the process.
Why Heat Treatment Is Used
In industrial applications, fasteners and structural components are often exposed to harsh conditions. These include high mechanical loads, fluctuating temperatures, or prolonged vibrations. In such situations, heat treatment can help better tailor the steel’s properties to the application.

Heat Treatment of Steel Through Specialized Partners

Heat treatment as part of the production process
Many fasteners are first manufactured at Hetraco’s in-house machine shop. Heat treatment can then be performed by one of our regular partners. By coordinating these steps, we create a production process in which machining, heat treatment, and delivery are seamlessly integrated.
For customers, this means the process remains straightforward. Hetraco coordinates the various steps and ensures that the treatment aligns with the product’s technical specifications. If a component requires a specific heat treatment, this is taken into account at an early stage.
